Emergency crews respond to accident during training exercise at SCI Phoenix prison in Skippack Township

SKIPPACK TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) — EMTs arrived at the SCI Phoenix prison Thursday morning after an accident during a training exercise.

Officials said the accident happened around 9:50 a.m. during the exercise at Skippack Township Jail with members of the FBI and ATF.

“Personnel from the Montgomery County Bomb Squad were installing an IED for a later class when it prematurely detonated,” a spokesman said.

Correctional facility staff were not involved in the training.

Chopper 6 video showed a large police presence and two medical helicopters at the scene.

A charred car was also seen in a field on the prison grounds.

Nothing was initially known about injuries.
