1457 ET – Brookfield is looking to buy polluting businesses and help them reduce their carbon footprint even as it invests billions of dollars in clean energy companies, Natalie Adomait, a managing partner at the infrastructure investment firm, said during a panel. She cited the $12.4 billion private equity investment of Australian utility Origin Energy, which operates a large coal-fired power plant, by Brookfield and three other investors. “The goal will be to reduce emissions by actually shutting down [Origin’s] coal mill, while working with [Australia’s] governments and regulators to make sure we’re building renewable energy,” she said. Brookfield has since December invested about half of its $15 billion first energy conversion fund, Adomait added. (luis.garcia@wsj.com; @lhgarcia)
