Ethan Hawke has praised him Strange way of life Co-star Pedro Pascal called him a “very attractive and extremely talented man”.
Directed by Pedro Almodóvar, the film is a 30-minute gay western short that finally had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this week. After 2020, it is Almodóvar’s second film in English human voice.
It follows Pascal’s character, Silva, as he journeys across the desert on horseback for the first time in over two decades to visit his friend, Sheriff Jake (Hawke). While the initial mood of their reunion is celebratory, a conflict arises between Silva’s desire to revisit the past and Jake’s desire to have her buried.
During a question-and-answer session in Cannes, Hawke praised Pascal for what it was like to act alongside him game of Thrones Star.
“I like being wanted, you know I don’t care. If it’s a very attractive, extremely talented man, all the better,” Hawke said. The Hollywood Reporterreports.
He continued by explaining what attracted him to his character Jake.
“What I liked about the Sheriff and Jake is that there’s a way we are and there’s a way we want to be, and often they’re not the same,” he said. “There is a conflict about whether you are straight or gay. There are ways in which we wish we were, and many times we go through life pretending we were, and this leads to cracks within us and lies within us.
“The maturation process means there are fewer cracks and lies. And because of that, I felt like Jake was a great character.”
Speaking of the chemistry and love in the film, Hawke added, “The moment you pull out a camera and start photographing people, there’s an act of love, where you say those people are important and worth your time .” And the things they feel matter and the things they think matter and are worth our all thinking about.
“So for me it’s kind of always about love. What moves us is what we want, what we love. Desire makes the world go round.”
