Eurovision 2023: What do the French lyrics to La Zarra’s song Evidemment mean in English?

La Zarra brings Hollywood glamor to Liverpool this Eurovision season.

The 35-year-old musician is representing France at this year’s song competition. As one of the Big Five – Britain, France, Spain, Italy and Germany – La Zarra is headed straight for the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest this weekend.

The bombastic event takes place on Saturday night (12 May) at the city’s M&S Bank Arena, where delegates from across Europe (and Australia) gather in hopes of being crowned Eurovision 2023 champions.

La Zarra – real name Fatima-Zahra Hafdi – is a self-taught musician who delivers a real Parisian disco queen with Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Edith Piaf and a pinch of Lady Gaga.

Born in Montreal to French-speaking Canadian parents, La Zarra rose to fame in 2021 with the platinum-certified single “Tu t’en iras” (“You’ll Go”).

However, for the Eurovision Song Contest, La Zarra will perform another of her songs entitled Évidement, which she co-wrote with Benny Adam.

The track features additional star power including legendary producers Banx and Ranx. The duo has collaborated with pop sensations such as David Guetta, Dua Lipa and Ellie Goulding.

The song, whose title means “Obviously” in English, is performed entirely in French.

Proof (English)

My heart, my hand, my eyes, my hips

I don’t own anything anymore

i kill myself

To give them life

And pretend it’s nothing

In my hell garden

The plants are watered with dreams and tears

Even at the top of the highest mountain you cannot touch the sky

//

Apparently

All these promises I hear go away like the wind

Apparently

It’s always calm before the storm, don’t forget that

//

It’s always too good to be true

But never too ugly to be unreal

This little girl I was will never be the same

//

I trade my future to get my past back

But time is treacherous

I’m looking for love

But never find it

Like a lost key

//

It’s not clear in my head

i want the truth

But I keep avoiding it

Even at the top

//

Maybe you’re on top of the world

Even so, your finger will not touch the sky

//

Apparently

All these promises I hear go away like the wind

Apparently

It’s always calm before the storm, don’t forget that

It’s always too good to be true

But never too ugly to be unreal

This little girl I was will never be the same

//

because i sing

mine and your life

A little romance

As I stand naked in front of you

give me a chance

//

from you to me

From me to you

Didn’t I make it?

Sing Great France

//

It’s always too good to be true

But never too ugly to be unreal

This little girl I was will never be the same

Apparently

Evidemment (French)

My heart, my reins, my reins

Plus rien ne m’apartient

J’me fais du mal pour

Fair you bie

J’oublie comme si c’n’était rien

//

In my garden

Poussent des fleurs

Que j’arrose de mes rêves de mes pleurs

//

On a beautiful journey in the evening of the world

‎‎You can’t touch the space you do

Proof

All these beautiful things they promise me

C’n’est que du vent

//

Proof

Auto Après-l’Beau-Temps Vient La Pluie

C’est c’qu’on oublie

//

It’s just a nice day to meet you

But there’s no reason why it’s wrong

Proof

There is nothing better than me

This avant-garde woman

//

I’m still selling time, I’m here

Time is an assassin

i love my love

I found it

Comme dans mon sac a main

//

Then it’s obvious

I’m looking for truth

All in all

//

On a beautiful journey in the evening of the world

‎‎You can’t touch the space you do

Proof

All these beautiful things they promise me

C’n’est que du vent

//

Proof

There is nothing better than me

This avant-garde woman

//

Car moi je chante

Ma vie la vôtre

And a little romance

Je suis nue devant vous

Donnez-moi donc une chance

//

De vous a moi

De moi a vous

Ai-je réussi à chanter

A chanter la Grande France

//

That’s all we have to do to learn more

There’s no reason why it’s wrong

Proof

There is no plus

Jamais la meme

This avant-garde woman
