But unfortunately, fans had to endure a painfully long wait to watch the highly anticipated second season. However, I think it’s safe to say Alice in the Borderland Season 2 was worth the wait. Now everyone is wondering whether the story will continue Alice in the Borderland Season 3.
The second season was released in December 2022, so it has been some time since its release. While the second season finale felt like a series finale, there could be a lot more to be discovered in a third season. But is Alice in the Borderland Season 3 is actually on Netflix?

There are only two seasons of the sci-fi series and both are currently available to stream Netflix. Each season has a total of eight episodes, which is the typical episode count of a Netflix show.
Will there be an Alice in Borderland season 3?
We hope so! As of September 19th, Netflix has not officially announced whether the popular sci-fi series will return for a third season. This might be worrying for many people as it has been almost a year since the second season was released and we still don’t know if there will be a third season. What’s even more concerning is that it took Netflix just two weeks after the first season premiered to renew the series for a second season. This time we are well past that point.
But what are the chances? Alice in the Borderland Is season 3 coming? Well, at first it seemed unlikely that Netflix would renew the series for another season, especially since the second season concludes the plot and ends roughly at the point where the source material, the manga, ends. The two seasons just released tell a complete story.
However, rumors are circulating about it Alice in the Borderland could have been silently renewed for a third season on Netflix. Apparently mysterious posters with the Netflix logo and ten playing cards in two rows of five were found in a subway in Japan.
Obviously, playing cards play a big role in the science fiction series. Many people believe it is a code and have even cracked it. As What’s on Netflix reports, a fan of the series has figured out what the poster means, and it’s believed it says “ALICE THREE.” Could that mean Alice in the Borderland Is season 3 a try at Netflix? It’s unclear, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this is the case. We just have to wait for confirmation from Netflix.
However, the second season went well on the streamer. In its first four weeks on the platform, the company managed to take a top spot on Netflix’s global top 10 list for non-English language television. Actually, Alice in the Borderland Season 2 was watched for 200,550,000 million hours worldwide on Netflix in its first month.
The viewing times are very important. Netflix typically looks at how many people watch a show in the first month to decide whether to renew or cancel the show. Since Alice in the Borderland Season 2 attracted tons of viewers, it’s possible they could use that as justification for a new season. While it seems unlikely, there are a few ways the show could continue.
Does Alice in Borderland Season 3 have a release date?
Since the series hasn’t been officially renewed for a third season, we don’t have a release date. Let’s say Netflix should be renewed Alice in the Borderland soon. It will be a while before the streamer announces the release date, as the new season would first have to be filmed and then edited in post-production. Once the film production process is completed, we can expect the announcement from Netflix.
Alice in Borderland season 2 ending explained
The second season ends with all face cards defeated and the surviving players given the option of remaining in the game or returning to the real world. Arisu and the other players who decided to return to the real world wake up in a hospital to find that a meteor has hit Tokyo. This is what we saw at the start of the show with the fireworks, but now we know that the fireworks were actually pieces of the meteor that destroyed Tokyo.
When the meteor hit Tokyo, many people died while those who were seriously injured were hospitalized. All of the people who took part in the games, such as Arisu and Usagi, had survived the explosion, but found themselves on the border between life and death, the Borderlands. When they return from the border areas, they cannot remember ever being there or knowing each other. Arisu and Usagi meet at the hospital and have a strange feeling that they have met before, but have no proof that their meeting actually happened. Nevertheless, they decide to get to know each other.
The final shot of the season shows a table full of playing cards flying away until only the joker card remains. The camera zooms in on the Joker card’s face while exciting music plays in the background. Then the credits roll.
What could Alice in Borderland Season 3 be about?
Based on the end of the second season, the third season could revolve around the Joker as the new villain. Maybe the Joker is actually the mastermind behind the games, and Arisu and the rest of the surviving players are still stuck in the Borderlands.
The third season could also be adapted by one of the manga creators border area Spin-offs: Alice on the Border Road or Alice in the Borderland: Repeat. However, Alice on the Border Road has no connection to Alice in the Borderland except having a similar premise, while Alice in the Borderland: Repeat is a sequel to Alice in the Borderland. So it would make sense if the makers adapted Alice in the Borderland: Repeat for the third season.

Alice in Borderland Season 3 Cast: Who Could Be in Season 3?
We don’t have an official cast list for Alice in the Borderland Season 3 as it hasn’t been renewed yet. However, we have an idea of who could return if there is to be a third season. Given that one of the few ways to continue the series would be to either come up with original material surrounding the mysterious Joker card or adapt one of the spin-off series, we’d probably expect a new cast.
How many episodes could Alice in Borderland Season 3 contain?
Since the first two seasons consisted of eight episodes each, a possible third season will likely have the same number of episodes. Maybe Netflix will increase the episode count to 10 episodes, but eight seems more likely.
Could Alice in Borderland Season 3 Be Rated TV-MA?
Yes. Since the first two seasons were rated TV-MA, it’s more than likely that a potential third season will have the same rating. It’s not often that the age rating of a Netflix show changes.
When might Alice in Borderland Season 3 start filming?
Since the series has not yet been officially renewed, it is not possible to say when filming will begin. Even if Netflix were to unexpectedly announce a renewal in 2023, filming on the series probably wouldn’t begin again until 2024. It all depends on whether the scripts have already been written.
Since Alice in the Borderland Since it is a Japanese series, it would not be affected by the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes, but it would still take some time for the creators to prepare production for an expected third season.
Could Alice in Borderland Season 3 release on Netflix in 2023?
Basically, there is no chance that the third season could appear in 2023. Firstly, the series hasn’t been renewed yet and we’re already in late summer.
Even if the show were renewed for the next month or so, it would still need time for pre-production before cameras roll. Production is expected to take at least four months, followed by a lengthy post-production process. There is simply no way the film production process will be completed in time for a 2023 release, even a 2024 release seems unlikely.
Unless the show was secretly filmed (very unlikely). If Netflix is renewing it, we won’t be waiting for a third season (or spin-off) to be released until late 2024 or 2025 at the earliest.
