Devine terrorized the south of town for almost ten years before he was captured by the police.

The serial rapist is considered one of Scotland’s most dangerous sex offenders and attacked five women between 1979 and 1987 – two of them pregnant.

He was later convicted in 1987 in Edinburgh’s High Court on multiple counts including four counts of rape, attempted rape and attempted murder.

Devine threatened his traumatized victims with a hammer before being jailed for 23 years.

He was only the third man in Scotland to be sentenced to life for rape.

The shocking and violent attacks kept many women in the city stuck in their homes at night for fear of becoming the next victim of the ‘Beast of Ibrox’.

His latest victim was a young woman, in her early 20s, who Devine pounced on after she got off a bus on Shieldhall Road.

The woman was on her way home when she was grabbed on the street and threatened with a knife.

She was dragged by Devine to a disused railroad track, where he repeatedly assaulted and raped her.

The victim managed to drag himself up the embankment to stop the police.

Her description of the fiend also attempting to strangle her eventually led to Devine being caught for his horrific crimes.

A photo test allowed police to gather enough information about Devine in public to arrest him.

Later that year he was found guilty of four counts of rape: attempted murder of one victim and attempted rape of another.

Devine was in the news again in 2006 when he was in a parole program at Saughton Nick, 19 years after his conviction.

He was subsequently accused of smuggling drugs into HMP Saughton and his release date was postponed.

In another incident in 2010, it was alleged that he was caught smuggling heroin to HMP Shotts in Lanarkshire.

He was then transferred to HMP Grampian at Peterhead.

He is understood to have been released from prison in July 2017 and was rumored to be returning to Glasgow.

The news caused horror among the residents of Ibrox.

An inquest is being conducted into his death from a fatal accident.

It is not known why he was in custody at HMP Barlinnie.

A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: “Dominic Devine, 66, a prisoner at HMP Barlinnie, died on Sunday 6 August 2023.”
