HONG KONG — The export boom that has fueled China’s economy through the pandemic slowed in August, reflecting the impact of rising inflation and slowing growth elsewhere in the world.

The slowdown in exports threatens to erode the pillar that has supported growth in the world’s second-largest economy as new Covid-19 lockdowns in major Chinese cities further restrict spending and the global economy moves closer to a recession. China is struggling to shrug off the impact of its zero-tolerance policy on Covid and a downturn in the property market.
