Fabrizio Romano has great news for Arsenal fans on Saturday morning

William Saliba is undoubtedly one of the hottest players in Europe right now and Arsenal are just getting their grip on the Frenchman’s future.

In fact, the Gunners have now reportedly triggered a renewal clause in Saliba’s contract to keep him at the club until 2024.

The defender’s contract originally expired this summer but had the option to extend that contract for another year.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have triggered that extension as well as a similar option in Charlie Patino’s contract.

This is undoubtedly fantastic news for Arsenal fans.

Saliba has been one of the Gunners’ best players this season and the fact that he’s signed for another year is a real boost.

However, as Romano says, the real aim is to tie Saliba to a new long-term deal and negotiations are ongoing to that end.

Whether or not Saliba will sign a new contract remains to be seen, but in our opinion he would be a fool to walk away from Mikel Arteta’s project now.

Saliba was unreal in this team and at just 21 years old he needs to develop in this way under a coach who trusts him wholeheartedly.

Ultimately, Saliba could consider joining a team like Real Madrid or Barcelona, but for now, he should focus on developing his craft and perfecting his game at Arsenal.

This mini-contract extension is certainly a boost for the Gunners but the club may not be really sure about Saliba’s future until he signs a new long-term deal.
