Fans in disbelief at Nathan Jones interview as former Southampton manager makes bold claim on Sky Sports

NATHAN JONES left fans in disbelief as he gave an interview on Sky Sports.
The former Luton Town and Southampton manager opened up about his time at both clubs and his thoughts on his potential return to management.
Jones was sacked by the Saints after just 14 games when the club were bottom of the Premier League.
During his brief tenure, he caused a stir with his responses to press conferences when he suggested he had “compromised on principles” during his time at the club.
He also claimed to be one of the best managers in Europe despite losing most of his games.
When asked if he would have kept Southampton in the Premier League, he replied Sky Sports: “That’s something, whatever I answer, it’s a bit of a tricky question.”
“If I had gotten the results then I would have improved the team further, I know.
“I believe in the work we’re doing, but it’s very difficult to turn around and say that because the last thing I want is another headline.”
“But I enjoyed the time and am now looking forward to the next challenge.”
On his next job, Jones admitted he’s hoping for a permanent spot at a club so he can ‘build up’.

He said: “I’m a contractor. I like being in places for a long time.”
“Ironically, I believe our work is deep and not just based on results. If you look at my previous club, we built something that didn’t depend on a manager.”
“I don’t like hacking and altering. If I decide on a project or one comes up for me, then I have to be able to do a good job.”
When asked if Luton was “massively different” from when he left the club, Jones replied: “No, I’m not at all.”
“I think there will be subtle changes, the formation, the staff and the type of goals conceded. It was just based on the structure.”
And fans were left in disbelief at the Welshman’s responses, as one fan sarcastically said: ‘Wait, if he’d won games would he have kept them? The guy is a genius.”
Another explained: “You don’t get the results. You get fired. There is no if, but, maybe. You didn’t get the results and you’re fired.”
A third joked, “If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike.”
A fourth said: “But he hasn’t achieved results and upset the fanbase with his comments, even Luton doesn’t miss him.”
A fifth tweeted: “This guy is unreal 🤣 if I had gotten the results just like you wouldn’t have gotten the results if he had been as good as he’s trying to claim he would have gotten the results.”

Jones was reportedly on a £1.25million contract with the Saints and is set to be paid for the full three and a half years he is expected to stay.
That brings Jones’ total spend to £8.4million.
