FBI and LAPD swoop in on Playboys gang members and associates, make arrests on racketeering charges

The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department joined other law enforcement agencies in a dawn gang search Thursday, arresting more than a dozen members of the Playboys 13 gang in a racketeering case naming about 40 of the gang’s leading members .

Heavily armed FBI agents and police officers swarmed across LA’s East Side and into various surrounding communities, arresting those named in federal criminal court documents as part of a plot that sold narcotics, assaulted enemies, and sometimes resulted in murder.

Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI, confirmed that as of Thursday morning there had been at least a dozen arrests in the gang investigation and that authorities are still searching for a small number of people charged with gang activity.

The Playboys are a Southern California Surenos gang long associated with the Mexican Mafia prison gang. In 2017, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office went to the county to bar her from a church property they had made the center of her drug trade.

Federal prosecutors are expected to release details of the charges related to Thursday’s arrests later today, authorities said.
