Florida Gators move football game vs. Eastern Washington Eagles to Sunday due to Hurricane Ian

With Hurricane Ian pounding Florida’s Gulf Coast, the Florida-East Washington college football game in Gainesville has been postponed from Saturday to Sunday.

The University of Florida announced the change Tuesday and said it will continue to work with local and state officials to monitor the impact of the storm.

Florida (2-2) suffered a loss to No. 11 Tennessee, while Eastern Washington (1-2) lost back-to-back games.

The game, to be played at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, is a 12 p.m. ET kickoff (ESPN+/SEC Network+).

The University of Florida canceled classes Wednesday through Friday.

Other games affected in Florida by the potential impact of Hurricane Ian:

  • South Florida’s soccer game against East Carolina has been moved from Tampa to Boca Raton and will be played Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (ESPN+). This game will be played at Florida Atlantic Stadium. It was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

  • The NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved their football operations to the Miami Dolphins’ training complex in Miami Gardens beginning Wednesday in preparation for Sunday night’s game against the Chiefs.

  • The NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning has postponed preseason games against Carolina on Wednesday and Nashville on Thursday. Those games were scheduled to be played at Amalie Arena in Tampa.
