Former COTY would be the best fit for LA Lakers

As the LA Lakers continued to look for their coach, several analysts had opinions on who should be hired. Colin Cowherd recently revealed that he thinks a former Coach of the Year should be the pick.

The Lakers’ search seems to be coming to an end, as the team is revealing the finalists, but anything is possible until the team makes a final decision.

During his show, Cowherd revealed that the team should try to hire Doc Rivers to be the team’s new head coach:

“He’s the best fit for the Lakers. That doesn’t mean Philadelphia wants to let him go. He’s won a title. He’s played in the game. He’s capable of navigating competitions. stars, and this Laker team is an old roster. It’s an odd list. There’s some ego here.”

One of the most important aspects for the next Lakers coach will be his ability to work with the stars, especially superstar LeBron James and the Buss family.

Do not tell @ColinCowherd that Doc Rivers can’t coach… “He’s the best fit for the Lakers… He’s won a title, played the game, and has the ability to navigate the stars.”

Cowherd believes Rivers could be the coach the Lakers need.

“I think he and LeBron would work well together. Both were defenders, both played the game, both were around. I don’t think you want to experiment with a coach. I mean, Frank Vogel feels a bit like Terry Stotts. In the end, there’s no power, and Doc will come in and have some power.

“(Lakers owner) Jeannie Buss knows Doc. The Buss family knows Doc.”

If Rivers can navigate the chaotic situation in Los Angeles, the team can live up to the lofty expectations placed upon them. However, the potential for the Lakers and former COTY to join forces still has some hurdles to overcome.

Combining former COTY Doc Rivers with the LA Lakers has potential but is still a fantasy at the moment.

Despite the disappointing end to Philadelphia, the signs are that Doc Rivers will stay the course for the time being.

While the LA Lakers may want to hire Doc Rivers as their new head coach, they’ll still have some problems getting him to take on that role.

It feels like there’s more than just smoke in the Doc Rivers and Lakers connection. A lot of poses from both sides but I can’t imagine Daryl Morey being sold on Rivers as he’s public.…

If his current team isn’t interested in a move on from him, Doc Rivers’ move to Los Angeles to join the Lakers is unlikely to go away.

Even if Philadelphia wants to move on from Rivers and the Lakers want him, the Lakers will likely have to give up some assets to get the old COTY.

For now, general manager Rob Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss need to focus on finding a coach they can get on while keeping their hopes up for a chance at Rivers.
