Former Imperium member to reportedly receive name change in WWE

Former Imperium member and NXT star Fabian Aichner may soon be getting a new name in WWE.

Aichner has been with Vince McMahon since 2016, first working at NXT UK and then crossing the Atlantic to compete at regular NXT. As part of the Imperium stable, Aichner was very successful, maintaining his dominance and winning championship gold along with his teammates. However, since the stable’s dissolution, Aichner has not appeared on WWE TV.

That could soon change, however, as WWE released a vignette for a new Superstar on this week’s episode of NXT 2.0. The video promoted Giovanni Vinci’s forthcoming debut and although his face was not shown, it is highly speculated that Aichner will be the man behind the gimmick. So far nothing has been confirmed, neither by WWE nor by Fabian Aichner himself.

Should speculation prove correct, Aichner would be the latest in a long line of former NXT talent to have their established names changed. These include Aichner’s former stablemates and most recently LA Knight, repackaged as Max Dupri.

When did Empire dissolve?

Imperium imploded shortly after MSK’s Aichner and Marcel Barthel were dethroned as NXT Tag Team Champions at NXT: Stand & Deliver.

In the following episode of NXT 2.0, Aichner and Barthel lost a tag team match to The Creed Brothers of Diamond Mine. After the competition, Fabian left his partner and hasn’t been on TV since.

Shortly thereafter, the other members of the group, Barthel and leader GUNTHER (WALTER), were repackaged and brought into the main roster.

It will be interesting to know the true identity of Giovanni Vinci and whether or not it is Fabian Aichner. You can read more about NXT 2.0 by clicking here.
