Former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy opened up about Vince McMahon’s relationship with Bray Wyatt, describing it as almost parental.
The former Universal champion was released by the company last year due to budget cuts. During his tenure, he has held two world titles, led numerous high-profile live events, and shared the ring with countless stars. He already has two gimmicks on the main roster, with ‘The Fiend’ being his second.
Speaking on Matt Hardy’s Hard LifeThe AEW star revealed that Vince McMahon used to punish and humiliate Bray Wyatt if he didn’t like the latter’s creative contributions.
“Windham (Bray Wyatt) has always had a very strange relationship with Vince McMahon, very strange, like, I almost feel Vince see him as a son in some way. When he does the things he likes, he will love him and he will really give him all that he can. He’ll lean back to try to get to know him, but then when he does something he doesn’t like, it’s like he’s going to lock him up for good. It almost felt like a really weird, really weird and different duality that Vince shared with Bray. It’s really bad and he will punish him and insult him. To me, it’s just weird, it’s almost like a parent,” said Hardy. (H/T WrestlingNews.Co)
Wyatt and Hardy are members of a tagging group called The Deleters of Worlds. Together they hosted the RAW Tag Team Championship.
Matt Hardy says Vince McMahon never considered Bray Wyatt the top man in WWE
The Eater of Worlds has shared the ring with many top stars such as The Undertaker, John Cena, Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns. His world titles are pretty short. He lost the WWE belt to Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33 not long after winning it.
A few years later, he dropped the Universal Championship to Goldberg after dethroning Seth Rollins a few months earlier. His last match in WWE was against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37, which he lost.
Matt Hardy explains in the podcast that Vince McMahon doesn’t see Wyatt as a front-runner compared to the likes of Roman and John Cena. Although he ended up with fans as The Fiend, he fell victim to bad ticketing and debuted alongside many other stars.
