Those blues are calling again and Frasier will be taking the call as a sequel has been announced on Paramount+. Kelsey Grammer will also return as the endearingly pretentious psychiatrist.
Deadline reports that the revival of the series has been given the green light by the streaming service and is likely to land a ten-episode order. The show will see Frasier Crane relocate to a new town where he will be surrounded by a new cast of characters; his Frasier Co-stars are not expected to be regulars, but may be guest stars. The situation resembles the transition between cheers and Frasier, where Crane left for a new town. That Frasier Revival has been in the works for some time; Grammer originated a reboot with CBS back in 2018, which resurfaced early last year before finally getting the green light.
Haughty psychiatrist Frasier Crane made his first appearance in the premiere of NBC’s third season cheers 1984, where he starred as the romantic rival of Sam Malone (Ted Danson) for the affection of Diane Chambers (Shelley Lang). Grammer remained part of the show’s Boston Barflies cast even after Long’s departure, and Frasier was eventually married to icy psychiatrist Lilith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth), with whom he had a son Friedrich. To cheers ended in 1993, he got his own spin-off, Frasierwhere a newly divorced Frasier moved to his hometown of Seattle and married his brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce), his father Martin (the late John Mahoney) and Martin’s caretaker Daphne (Jane Leeves). There he pursued a career as a call-in radio psychiatrist, assisted by his producer Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin). Most of Grammer’s Cheers co-stars eventually had guest roles in the spin-off, including Neuwirth, who reprized her role as Lilith.
As cheers, Frasier was a hit and ran for eleven seasons ending in 2004. Grammer’s 20-year career as Crane bound him to him James Arness on gun smoke for the longest consecutive time playing a character on American prime-time television; The record has since been broken by the cast The simpsons and Mariska Hargitay on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
Experienced sitcom writers and producers Chris Harris (How I met your mother, The great interiors, Acapulco) and Joe Cristalli (life in pieces, perfect harmony, maggie) will run the revival series with Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions.
