French Montana and Harry Fraud On Reuniting, Partying With Eric Adams, and Bringing New York Back

Cheating, where does French rank in compatibility for you?

Harry Cheat: At top. There are a lot of times when we’re in the studio and don’t even sing. We have a sample battle. We were showing each other things like “did you hear this?” It is the spirit of children’s love of music.

I saw Mayor Adams pull up to the listening party last night.

French Montana: Listen, man, what about that, the mayor of New York City goes there and stays up for three, three and a half hours? It’s one of the most prominent landmarks of New York City. I don’t think they’ve ever done that.

Do you feel nervous about associating with a politician?

French Montana: I feel like music has no limits. You cannot control your love of music. And I’m a person who loves giving opportunities to the kids in the neighborhood. And being connected to someone like Adams, who is doing the same thing on a higher level, just as powerful, it can’t help but help what I’m trying to help. If we’re not helping children, helping families change their lives, we’re not doing the right thing with this music. I’m not here to look cool. Guys, it’s not gangster. I will have to change my life. I will help make the difference. That’s what was so interesting about yesterday. I guess he also saw the vision. We are here to make New York City great.

What are you doing specifically to help the kids?

French Montana: We just signed a contract with the kids. We want to attract all the talented artists and bring them into the studio. We signed RPT and D-Thang.

Talk to me about the Drake and Puff line in the intro (“Had to patch up Drake and Puff after that little steak”).

French Montana: You don’t miss a thing. Well, I think the Puff and Drake line, I never got into it.

I think you are the one who helped peace broker.

French Montana: It was on my birthday. I remember we landed in a helicopter, and when we landed, Drake was there to surprise me. Puff enters in his own small boat and then hops on the boat. And that was the first time they got together after a little problem they had and I never even knew about it. I never even thought about it, but I just know those are my two best friends. And that was hard for me, so I did everything in my power to bring them together.

What are your plans after this?

Harry Cheat: I have a lot of surprises this year. I like to let it happen and [not speak before], be respected. But, I have a track record with someone that people are really seeing as King of the Youth right now coming out this summer, that’s going to really let people down. I want this year to be a little quieter than last year. Therefore Montega will start the rest of my year, but I will release four or five more tapes. And then I have some monsters, monster records are coming.

French, you have more than ten years in your career. What do you want your legacy to be?

French Montana: I want to get everything done outside of my bucket list. And I’m not talking about like Grammy, because we can’t control that. You can’t control people like you can control the street. Because, number one, I always want to make albums full of the best music that I loved that day. I feel that’s always what I’ve wanted to do. And there is no one better to do it than Cheating.

Anything else on the bucket list?

French Montana: To take out Max B. Then make his documentary. Because I had my own documentary. Drake is producing it. Puff too. We are falling towards the end of the year. Then we will work on Max.
