Frost Giant Studios’ Stormgate Looks To Revitalize The RTS Genre

Former Blizzard alumni bring their RTS skills to a new game from Frost Giant Studios, Stormgate. The debut trailer, which you can see above, was unveiled at Summer Game Fest this afternoon.

Tim Morten, director of production and CEO of Frost Giant Studios, took to the stage with Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keigley to share a little about the new strategy title. He describes the titular Stormgates as portals that open during solar storms, unleashing the Infernal Host onto a future Earth. The trailer showed a preview of both the demonic-looking Infernal Host faction, as well as the second announced race, the Human Resistance, portrayed in the Archaeologist’s footage, and possibly the cool-looking Mech. More factions will be revealed in the future, though those were the only two Morten would confirm during today’s reveal.

According to Morten, Stormgate is designed for accessibility and will be free to play but will not have pay-to-win transactions or NFTs. It will also be designed for more social interaction. Stormgate’s campaign can be played cooperatively. There will also be open-ended 3-player co-op and support for 3v3 PvP battles, as well as 1v1 battles for those who want a more personal galactic combat.

Stormgate will enter beta in 2023, and interested players can sign up on the game’s website to participate in the test.
