“We have to respect Liverpool but of course do our job and trust ourselves. We played a great first half, almost perfect in the way we controlled and blocked. In the second half we matched them every time,” said Fulham manager Marco Silva.

“I know the quality of Mitrovic and I’m here to get the best out of my players. Mitrovic isn’t just goalscoring, he’s constantly pushing and his overall work is fantastic.”

Fulham scored their first goal in the 32nd minute when they collapsed the right flank through Neesken’s kebano.

He put the ball down to Kenny Tete, who planted a cross into the box that Mitrovic headed past Alisson.

Nunez then scored to save Liverpool’s blush on his Premier League debut. He replaced Roberto Firmino in the 51st minute and scored just after the hour mark.

Salah shoved a low ball into the box, which the Uruguayan international flicked past Marek Rodak from close range.

Fulham were then awarded a penalty after Mitrovic went down under a challenge from Virgil van Dijk in the 72nd minute. The Serbian international converted the penalty coolly.

Salah equalized for Liverpool in the 80th minute after Nunez set him up.

Jordan Henderson was about to complete Liverpool’s comeback when he hit the bar from outside the box five minutes into injury time.

“The best thing about the game was the result. We got a point in a really bad game,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. “The result was okay, I don’t think we deserved more. Performance can be massively improved.

“We could have won the game because we had good chances, but today it was a bit too much.”
