Funeral arrangements announced for fallen Temple University Police Officer Christopher Fitzgerald

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Funeral arrangements have been announced for the Temple University police officer who was killed Saturday night.

According to FOP Lodge No. 5, a viewing for Christopher Fitzgerald will be held Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home on Academy Road.

There will also be a second tour at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The funeral service will take place immediately after this visit.

Fitzgerald is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery on Byberry Road in the Huntingdon Valley.

Fitzgerald was fatally shot after a brief pursuit and a fight on North 18th Street near the Temple University campus Saturday night.

Miles Pfeffer, 18, was taken into custody at his home on Quarry Road in Buckingham Township, Bucks County, on Sunday morning.

Temple Police brought Pepper to Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on Monday morning. He has now been charged and formally charged with murder and the murder of a police officer.

According to court records obtained by Action News, Officer Fitzgerald was initially responding to reports of a robbery near 17th Street and West Montgomery Avenue when he first encountered Pepper.

After the shooting, authorities said Pfeffer stood over the officer and shot him multiple times in the head while he was on the ground. Pfeffer is also accused of attempting to deprive Officer Fitzgerald of his service weapon, but was unsuccessful.

Action News spoke to US Marshal Robert Clark, who was present when Pepper was arrested. He says Pfeffer was arrested with the officer’s Fitzgerald handcuffs.
