Gambling enters top 10 most-watched Twitch categories as slots overtake Warzone

The Twitch gambling meta has officially made its way into the top ten most watched categories on the platform, with even more watched hours than Warzone.

Gambling on Twitch has proven to be a controversial topic with many, like Pokimane, speaking out against top content creators like Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel spending thousands of dollars playing slots.

Despite criticism and even a petition to ban gambling on Twitch, the category’s popularity has continued to grow and even managed to beat some of the best-streamed games.

Slots have overtaken battle royale hit Call of Duty Warzone by a wide margin, according to data from StreamElements analytics partner Rainmaker.gg.

Slots officially overtake Warzone in Twitch viewership

The report says viewers watched 39 million hours of slots on Twitch as of May 2022. That’s 6 million more than Warzone, which had 33 million last month.

The gambling category is now the 9th most watched game, but still lags far behind 8th place DOTA 2 and Fortnite with 48M and 51M watched hours respectively.

At the top, Just Chatting tops the list with 271 million viewers in the month of May, eclipsing runners-up League of Legends by over 100 million.

Trainwreck streamed almost 300 hours of slots in May.

The success of slots was also partly due to popular streamer Trainwreck, who watched the most hours on the site after spending almost 300 hours broadcasting their gambling in May.

It will be interesting to see if slots continue to rise or if upcoming games can dethrone the controversial category and make their way into the top 10 for June.
