Gary Busey sex offense charges: 3 women say they were groped by actor at Monster Mania Convention in New Jersey, police say

CHERRY HILL, NJ (WPVI) — Actor Gary Busey has been charged with sex offenses in connection with an incident at South Jersey’s annual Monster Mania convention, police say.

It happened on August 13th when the event was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill.

Police said Busey, 78, of Malibu, Calif., was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact, one count of criminal attempt/criminal sexual contact and one count of molestation.

Police did not identify the suspect as the actor and gave an age and hometown that matched the actor’s, reports the Associated Press. An email has been sent to them for confirmation of identification and other details.

The actor was scheduled to be a celebrity guest on all three days of the event.

Three women have come forward, alleging that Busey inappropriately groped and touched them during a meeting, Cherry Hill Police Chief Robert Kempf told ABC News.

Police have not been in contact with the actor’s legal representatives, Kempf said, but spoke to Busey while he was still at Cherry Hill, according to the initial report.

Authorities did not provide any further information about the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cherry Hill Police Department at (856) 432-8834.

Busey has starred in dozens of films, including Lethal Weapon, Predator 2, and The Buddy Holly Story.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspect had an attorney, and a representative for the actor didn’t immediately respond Saturday asking for comment.

The Monster Mania Convention released this statement regarding the incident:

“Monster-Mania is assisting authorities in their investigation into an alleged incident involving attendees and a celebrity guest at his convention in Cherry Hill, New Jersey last weekend. Immediately upon receiving a complaint from attendees, the celebrity guest was removed from the convention, and Monster-Mania also urged attendees to contact the police to file a complaint.

The safety and well-being of all of our participants is of the utmost importance to Monster-Mania, and the company will not tolerate behavior that may compromise those values. Monster-Mania will continue to support the authorities in any way we can.”
