Give your home decor a holiday flavour with four crafty ideas

A TRIP to the beach will often end up with a pile of sand, shells, and pebbles following you home.
Instead of throwing them away, why not use them to create keepsakes you can cherish forever?
Dip a toe into crafting with these simple ideas.
SMALL JOB: Use sand in your shoes and seashells in your bag to make beachside-themed candle holders.
Arrange both in the bottom of a small mug, then place a tealight candle in it.
Next time you light it up, you’ll be transported back to that lovely day on the beach.
ON STONE: Rocky beaches can wreak havoc with bare feet, but any debris you collect can be put to good use.
Remember the rock painting craze?
Take it a step further with the ideas at Hobbycraft.co.uk and create cobblestone portraits, cobblestone or cobblestone alien genealogical trees.
TIP TIPS: Driftwood bleached by ocean waves can be the starting point for so many beach craft projects, from wind chimes to picture frames.
One of the simplest things to do is portable driftwood.
Collect as many pieces of dry wood as you can.
Drill a hole in each piece and string together with coarse wire. Make it as messy as possible by using sticks of different lengths.
Hang from ceiling hooks as a reminder of beach fun.
SMALL TREATMENT: If you and your family are busy with beach cleanups, you might be lucky enough to find some gems in the trash.
The plastic that ends up on our shores can be recycled to create a picture or collage.
That’s what Cornwall artist Michelle Costello does.
She even sells creations at her Etsy store that are made from discarded plastic found on local beaches.
Michelle also raises awareness about plastic pollution and raises money for charity.
