Giving Tuesday: New Jersey couple provides family environment to those living in homeless shelters – Be Kind

CHERRY HILL, NJ (WPVI) — The couple, starring in this week’s Be Kind, embodies Giving Tuesday’s mission.

Carleen and James Roberts visit shelters throughout the city of Camden and Gloucester County, New Jersey.

Last week they served Thanksgiving dinner and gave out coats at two Anna Sample House locations.

The Cherry Hill couple said they were inspired to give back two years ago at the height of the pandemic.

When so many families were getting back to basics and enjoying home-cooked meals around the dinner table, the Roberts didn’t want to leave the less fortunate short.

“So my husband and I, under our organization, decided that we would bring them that, we would bring them the home-cooked family meals. We would make them feel, contain love, feel at home even though they’re in a temporary space,” Carleen said.

Carleen shared a personal moment with a shy 13-year-old girl who received donated Christmas gifts.

“She let me know that her Christmas was made. Not only did she feel love, but it changed her perception of life in an animal shelter,” Carleen said.

The Roberts hope to continue their mission of creating a family environment for those in shelters.
