Gonzaga’s Drew Timme named WCC player of the Year

Timme is the second Bulldog to win the WCC Player of the Year award in a row.

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Drew Timme was named West Coast Conference (WCC) Co-Player of the Year for the second year in a row. He shared this year’s honor with Santa Clara’s Brandin Podziemski.

Timme averaged 21.2 points per game and 61.6 percent from the field on the second shooting. He is fifth in the WCC with 7.5 rebounds per game and seventh in blocking 0.9 shots per game.

He is sixth in the nation with 637 points. He is also the second Bulldog to earn this recognition. Blake Stepp managed the feat in 2003 and 2004.

Timme is one of four Zags to receive conference honors, along with Malachi Smith, Julian Strawther and Anton Watson.

Timme was Gonzaga’s 20th WCC Player of the Year. Smith joined Andrew Nembhard in 2021 as the only GU player to be named sixth man of the year in what started 2021 as recognition.

Smith was voted the league’s sixth man of the year. Timme was named to the conference’s first team by Strawther, while Anton Watson received honorable mention awards.

All five major individual honors, as well as the All-West Coast Conference teams and All-Freshman Team, were chosen solely by the league’s ten head coaches.
