Paul Sorvino, best known for his role in Goodfellas, has died at the age of 83. According to Sorvino’s agent Roger Neal, he died this morning and his wife Dee Dee was by his side. Dee Dee said: “Our hearts are broken there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life and one of the greatest performers to ever walk the screen and stage.”
Paul had a long career in Hollywood, starring in nearly 50 films. He is best known for his role as gangster Paul Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 masterpiece Goodfellas. He also played Fulgencio Capulet in the 1996 adaptation of Romeo + Juliet and Henry Kissinger in the 1995 film Nixon. Paul starred in the 1970 film Where’s Poppa? In addition to appearances on Broadway and in television series such as “Law & Order”.

Paul played Frank Costello in one of his last roles in the television series Godfather of Harlem. Sorvino grew up in Brooklyn, where he was born and raised; his father was an Italian immigrant. Before turning to acting while studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, Paul wanted to be an opera singer.
Paul developed a variety of breathing techniques to help control his severe asthma. He also wrote the bestselling How to Become a Former Asthmatic and founded the Sorvino Asthma Foundation. He has three children, including Michael Sorvino, an actor and producer, and Mira Sorvino, an Academy Award winner.
He was 83.
