Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to debut on Samsung Galaxy S23

Samsung has a long history of introducing powerful new display technologies into its phones. The next ones are no different.
Almost three years later Debut of glass manufacturer Corning Gorilla Glass Victus tech, Samsung’s next round of flagship smartphones will use Gorilla Glass Victus 2, per a press release(Opens in a new window). These currently unannounced phones will be the first to use the new version of Victus, presumably to offer more protection against damage caused by dropping the phone on hard surfaces.
What to expect from Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked livestream in February
According to Corning, the Victus 2 can withstand falls from up to one meter onto concrete and up to two meters onto asphalt. If you don’t believe this, there are some YouTube videos of drop and scratch tests showing how well it seems to work.
Side note: dropping phones on hard surfaces to test screen durability seems like a fun job.
As for Samsung’s end of the bargain, the timing of this announcement coincides nicely with that Galaxy unpacked stream next wednesday. Samsung is widely expected to announce a trio of Galaxy S23 phones at the event, and unless Corning’s announcement is just a crazy coincidence, you can bet these phones will be using Victus 2s.
Just remember one thing: the best way to ensure your phone doesn’t break is to not drop it at all. Don’t tempt fate.
