Graffiti artist-turned-muralist sets the stage for a rockin’ Musikfest

PITMAN, NJ (WPVI) – “I have always drawn and painted, and in 2006 I started graffiti painting,” said Jimmy McMenamin. “So that’s where I developed a love of letters and a fondness for using spray paint.”

What started out as marking trains has grown into a full-time mural painting career that’s progressing at full speed. McMenamin’s company, Glossblack LLC, has won clients in the ranks of the Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Red Bull and more. Each of his letter-heavy, multi-layered, richly colored murals breathes new life into a brand.

McMenamin’s sensational style caught the attention of Action News, who collaborated with him to create a mural for the 6abc Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade. But that wasn’t the last time he painted the 6abc logo.

“I think that was kind of the inspiration for this music festival mural,” McMenamin said.

The latest Glossblack Mural will appear at the Music Festival in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a 10-day festival celebrating art, music and food. Fans of the nearly 40 year old event can discover iconic foods like Aw Shucks! Toasted corn and island noodles. Music Festival mascot Artemis the Owl shines brightly alongside the ubiquitous Music Festival mug. A rocking guitar and an electrified audience draw attention to the steel stacks towering in the background.

According to McMenamin, this mural is another example of how art can bring people together and foster a sense of community.

“I think the goal of any artist is simply to do what you think is important and fun and speaks to you and other people,” he said. “So the music festival starts on Thursday, August 4th and I’m pretty excited to see people interacting with the mural.”

The music festival starts on August 4th and runs until August 14th. To learn more about Musikfest or Glossblack artworks, visit their websites.
