Grant County deputies believe mass shooting prevented by arrest

GEORGE, Wash. — Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man Friday night at the Gorge Amphitheater who they believe “had plans” to commit a mass shooting.

Authorities were informed by security guards and citizens around 9pm that a man in the parking lot had inhaled an unknown “substance or gas from a balloon” and loaded two pistols from the trunk of his car.

The suspect, a 30-year-old Ephrata male, then reached out to concert-goers attending the Bass Canyon concert series at the Gorge Amphitheater. According to authorities, the man asked attendees when the show would end and where people would leave the venue.

The man never made it into the event and was arrested and disarmed by authorities outside the gates of the venue. He was eventually arrested on suspicion of possessing a dangerous weapon and unlawfully carrying or handling a weapon. He is being held in the Grant County Jail.

No one was injured and the suspect gave no details to MPs when arrested.
