Former Leicester City player Gary Lineker delved into journalist Piers Morgan about his preferred Arsenal front line for next season.
Morgan recently tweeted that he wants Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and Cristiano Ronaldo to be the Gunners’ trio next season. However, he did not include Bukayo Saka in his preferred three-man scheme. The 20-year-old is considered by many to be Arsenal’s best player.
Lineker was unhappy with Saka’s exclusion, replying to Morgan’s tweet that he would be happy to bring the player to Leicester City. He tweeted:
“Great idea. We’ll bring Bukayo Saka at the LCFC.”
While Lineker and Morgan’s Twitter jokes are nothing new, the omission of Saka in Arsenal’s attack is surprising.
He is their top scorer in the Premier League this season with 11 goals in 35 appearances and has also provided six assists. He was voted the club’s ‘Player of the Season’ last year. Nketiah has only recently started shooting for the Gunners, scoring all four goals this season in their last four appearances. Martinelli has five goals and five assists in 26 league appearances.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, has shown his prowess this season despite the age of 37. He has scored 18 league goals (24 in all competitions) for a losing side Manchester United. .
Arsenal prepare for the biggest North London Derby in recent memory
Mikel Arteta’s men will head to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 12 to take on perhaps their fiercest opponent yet. Aside from the match being a big derby, its outcome will have huge implications in the race for the top four in the Premier League.
The Gunners are in a very good position with 4th place, 4th place, 4 points more than the 5th ranked team Tottenham Hotspur, with 3 matches remaining. If they win the derby on Thursday, they will secure fourth place at the opponent’s stadium. However, if they lose, Spurs will be one point behind Arsenal with two games remaining.
Arteta’s men have beaten Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham United and Leeds United in their last four games. They are motivated and will be very confident.
Meanwhile, Spurs fought bravely for a point against Liverpool at home to Anfield in a 1-1 draw on May 8. With that performance, they will hope to take all three points at home. Considering what is at stake for both teams, the North London Derby is set to be a big one.
