Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 End-Credit Scenes Explained

Do you remember when Avengers: Endgame Didn’t have an end credits scene? It was a semi-shocking moment because of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had depended on them for so long. Back then, however, as the title proves, the film was an ending. There was no need to tease what came next.
The same could be said for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is now in cinemas. Although the film is only the second release in Marvel’s Phase 5, Writer-director James Gunn made it very clear this will be his last film with the Guardians and the last time this team will appear on screen together. If you’ve seen the movie it delivers on those promises. But Gunn, he did it incredible use of credits scenes in the previous Guardian movies, wanted to do it again. And so, although it certainly wasn’t need The film has two end credits scenes – and they set the table for what is yet to come.

Scene one features Rocket, a much larger Groot, Adam Warlock, Cosmo, Kraglin, and Phyla, a young girl from the High Evolutionary’s ship, all sitting somewhere. They wear Guardian outfits, which makes it clear that this is the new Guardian team. are there more We do not know it. But after a hilarious discussion about their favorite music, these new Guardians get ready to protect a city from a swarm of evil creatures. Just Guardians doing Guardian things. Which, of course, means this team could certainly show up in future MCU movies. And if you look at the comics, Warlock and Phyla in particular are bursting at the seams with future story possibilities.
And of course, the song Rocket chooses for this fight is Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love,” the song Peter Quill was listening to at the very beginning of the very first one Guardian. (I’m not crying, you’re crying.)
So that’s what’s going on with Rocket, Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy. And while the future of Mantis, Drax, Gamora, and Nebula is sort of explained in the film (Mantis will go off on his own, Gamora is back with the Ravagers, Drax and Nebula will oversee Knowhere), there’s another big Guardian that still sticks: Peter .

As we saw in the movie, Peter decided to return to Earth and reunite with his grandfather. It’s a very touching moment and the perfect ending for this character. A real moment that comes full circle. However, the second end credits scene gives us a bit more. It shows Peter and Grandpa at the kitchen table and talks about their neighbors. Also, Grandpa’s newspaper has an article on Kevin Bacon’s alien abduction, a nod to the Holiday Special.
And while the conversation about mowing the lawn is funny, it’s not as important as what happens next. The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return comes to the big screen and lets us know that while the Guardians of the Galaxy as we know them is done, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord is not. (Which he actually said also in job interviews.)
But will he be one of the Guardians? Will he be a Ravager again? Will he reunite with Gamora and force a new relationship? Or could he stay on earth and be one of the Avengers? We suspect even Kevin Feige doesn’t know for sure. All we know is that while James Gunn is gone, Star-Lord is still on the table.
