Gunbrella game suggests The Penguin may have been onto something

There aren’t many situations in the media where we see an interesting marriage between guns and rain gear. The Penguin from Batman Famous comes to mind. He would waddling with an umbrella, occasionally aiming for the sharp end and pulling the trigger at the handle. Because the umbrella is also a gun. It’s so smart. Devolver Digital and developer doinksoft (manufacturer of Gato Raboto) seems to have taken that as a proof of concept. Today during the Nintendo Indie World showcase, the duo revealed Gunbrellaa game where you use a gun is also an umbrella.

It’s an interesting concept for The Penguin, and it looks equally great in a 2D shooter Gunbrella. The game takes on the Wild West motif, where your bearded, grizzly woodsman goes on a “revenge mission”. As standard. He is equipped with a Gunbrella, an umbrella/gun hybrid that can fire and serve as a shield. You can also float in the air like Mary Poppins, and use it with zip lines.

But Gunbrella is much more than that in the game. Platform sections are common and the tool has the power to propel you up and over ledges. There’s a lot of acrobatics shown in the reveal trailer, and the footage itself looks really good so far. Enemies with more ground really can’t do much against someone who can hover in the air, shooting at any angle.

Where bullets fall like rain

Gunbrella Not just a famous case. The side-scrolling game also features moments where you chat with characters, explore and trade scrap for upgrades, and battle the supernatural while investigating “corporate mining.” Like the tool itself, Gunbrella is a game more than what it appears.

Check out the trailer above. The game will release for PC in 2023, so it might be a while until we see more.
