Hairy Bikers star Si King has opened up about the “disturbing” moment he discovered Dave Myers had cancer.

Myers first publicly announced his diagnosis on his and King’s podcast entitled torment unclein May 2022.

He told listeners that he would not be filming or attending food festivals for the entire summer.

“Anyway, Kingy, I have to get by now,” he said. “I haven’t been feeling too well lately and basically I have to have chemo, you know that anyway, so it’s going to be a little quiet for me this year.

“I won’t be filming, some of the festivals I won’t be able to attend, others might be fine with me, but this year is kind of a distraction for us.”

The 65-year-old continued, “I would love it if people would respect my privacy and just let me get on with it and give Si and our team the support they need, that would be great.”

In a new interview with The timesKing revealed that Myers called him immediately after learning of the diagnosis.

“I was driving. I had to stop,” he told the outlet on Saturday (June 17).

He continued: “It’s so disturbing. It is very difficult to put into words. There’s a sense of loss, but there’s also that sense of hope, you know, knowing my partner like I do.”

King called Myers “a fighter” and “a fighter,” adding, “But there were certain points where I was like, ‘Where do you want to go?’ What’s happening to my boyfriend?’”

He revealed that he stayed with Myers throughout his chemotherapy regimen, which he says made his fellow chef “very, very, very uncomfortable.”

King continued, “And it’s funny, you know, when you see someone you love so much in so much trouble, it’s very hard to know what to do. My character and personality are natural, I just want to fix them. I just want to fix it. I get very desperate when I can’t.”

The pair will reunite on screen in an eight-part series titled The hairy bikers go westwhere they will travel the west coast of Great Britain and experience a variety of culinary surprises.

Speak with The mirrorMyers said of the new show, “It’s incredible to be back. Every breath I take now is just refreshing and fabulous. It really varies what I ate.”

He called it “a big step back to normal.”

In September 2022, Myers said he “misses” his famous beard after losing it during chemotherapy.

He said, “I just miss my beard — the feeling because your skin is different and it’s all peachy.” No, I want my beard back. I’m happy with my hair – I think bald and beard is the right choice for a biker.”

Two months later, he thanked his doctors and nurses in Birmingham for helping him recover and the rehab staff for “making me walk again.”
