Hannah Brannau makes Arden Theatre Company debut in ‘The Glass Menagerie’

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Arden Theater Company in Old City kicks off its 35th anniversary season with a restaging of the beloved Tennessee Williams classic, The Glass Menagerie.

A Villanova actress makes her Arden debut while breaking boundaries.

Hannah Brannau is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University. She says this classic piece about dreams, deception and our collective need to connect is perfectly timed for this moment.

“The isolation and pain these characters feel is beautiful,” says Brannau. “I think it’s really timely — at this time as we’re slowly coming out of our own isolation and living in the time of COVID.”

Hannah has cerebral palsy and discovered her passion for acting at age 13 through the Delaware County theater company Acting Without Boundaries.

“As a young person, I got the idea of theater that people might not notice how different I am, or they won’t notice how different I am when I play a role,” Brannau said.

She says she learned the opposite, embracing the idea that acting is the ultimate vehicle to show everything that makes us all unique.

“It doesn’t matter how different you are,” says Brannau. “These differences are beautiful, and that’s what you bring with you. Come with it and use it. Allow yourself to be seen for who you are made for who you are.”

The Glass Menagerie runs at the Arden Theater Company until November 6th.
