HBO Max’s Hacks series jokes about Roman Reigns going to AEW

HBO Max Hacks the series is referenced to Roman Reigns in a season 2 episode.

The Hacks the series showcases the struggle of “legendary popular Las Vegas comedy diva” Deborah Vance to stay relevant. A struggling young comedy writer, who couldn’t find a job due to a tactless tweet, teamed up with her.

In season 2, episode 3 of the HBO Max series, titled Trust the Process, Angela Elayne Gibb, who plays Robin, mentions Roman Reigns when talking to her son. Carl Clemons-Hopkins plays the son – Marcus. The latter is the executive director of Deborah and has a key role on the show.

In the clip, Robin tells her son that she was interested in her son’s ex-boyfriend. Marcus was naturally not too pleased about this, but his mother tried to negotiate, asking him if she could talk to his ex if Reigns came to AEW. While there’s a chance this won’t happen, Marcus is still happy.

“If Roman Reigns ever attended AEW, can I at least DM him?”

It should be noted that this comes amid rumors that HBO Max may be preparing to sign a streaming deal with AEW.

Roman Reigns Is Not The First Wrestling Reference In Hacks

Someone behind the scenes in Hacks could be a wrestling fan, as this isn’t the first time a wrestling reference has been included in the show.

The last WWE reference was in Season 1. In that episode they talked about Royal Rumble and how they enjoyed watching Trish Stratus, Ivory, Jaqueline and Lita.

In the clip above, Robin talks to Johnny Sibilly, who plays Wilson, Marcus’ love interest. Given the showrunners’ apparent interest in wrestling, this may be the last time fans see a reference to the show.
