Jamie Carragher spoke of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as the Reds beat Southampton 2-1 at St. Mary on Tuesday night.
Klopp opted for major changes to his starting line-up against the Saints but still managed to get a win needed to drag the title race to the final game of the week.
The German coach opted to make up to nine changes to his starting line-up in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised Klopp for sparking the spirit of his team and setting such high standards. The former England defender told Sky Sports:
“There’s something that Jurgen Klopp has created and it’s not just about how good the first choice is. Sometimes it feels like you can put any group of players in and they play that way. “
“I go back a few years when Liverpool beat Everton with most an under-23 team in the FA Cup. It was almost a mentality that went through the club regardless of the squad.”
“We know they are good players but don’t joke, the reason they are not in the first group of 11 is because they are not as good as those players. But what he has produced at this club is the standard. that he expected, that spirit. , that mentality. He was just an absolute revelation.”
Carragher has suggested that all Liverpool players deserve praise but none more so than Klopp, who has been unbelievable.
“What he went through last season with injuries – and all the teams have injuries, I’m not making excuses, but they’re all in one position and it’s been a really tough season. . He lost his mother to Covid and he said it was the hardest season of his life.”
He also noted:
“To get back and be in the position that Liverpool are in after signing a player in the summer who was a team player who was absolutely incredible tonight and this weekend, Konate, and in this position where they can do something that has never been done before.”
“Yes, the players deserve incredible credit, but it’s all down to that man. Liverpool have a very, very special man at the top of their club.”
Liverpool may have to change their squad next season
Liverpool’s great collective spirit is the main reason why they are still chasing an unprecedented quartet despite Manchester City’s search for favorite spots for the Premier League title.
Edge players like Minamino, Origi, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Elliott, Gomez and Jones have all moved in when called up by Klopp this campaign.
It may not stay the same next season with some major departures likely this summer.
Divock Origi looks set to leave while the likes of Minamino and Oxlade-Chamberlain could also move in search of regular game time.
We will have to wait and see if the Red Devils can manage to maintain their squad depth during the summer transfer window.
