Kelly Clarkson was then moved to tears Heinrich Winkler gave heartfelt advice to her little girl, River Rose.
During an appearance on Tuesday’s “Kelly Clarkson Show,” the 77-year-old “Barry” actor opened up about his success as a children’s book author despite his dyslexia when the 40-year-old presenter revealed that her daughter has dyslexia and the same learning disorder.
“I drove my daughter to school yesterday and she is dyslexic,” Clarkson shared. “And you told me you’re dyslexic too. I find it amazing to tell my daughter that you’ve written about 40 books and you’re dyslexic.”
The “Breakaway” singer also explained that the 8-year-old “was bullied at school because he couldn’t read like all the other kids.”
When Clarkson admitted she “didn’t know how common” dyslexia is in children, Winkler revealed that 1 in 5 children are diagnosed with the learning difference. “She’s part of the tribe!” he said.
The Arrested Development star then shared a message with River, looking straight at the camera: “River! How you learn has nothing to do with how brilliant you are,” he reminded the little girl as Clarkson broke down in tears.
Besides River, the Because of You artist shares her son Remi, 6, with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

Since their split, Clarkson has been open about how her children have been handling their divorce. During an appearance in March on Angie Martinez IRL Podcast, Kelly revealed that she has taught her children to be open and honest about their feelings.
“I literally ask my kids every night when we cuddle and put them to bed, ‘Are you happy? And if not, what could make you happier?’” she explained. “Sometimes they say — especially in the last two years, a lot of that and it’s killing me and I want them to be honest, so I never say, ‘Oh God, don’t tell me that’ — but a lot of times it’s been like, ‘” You know, I’m just really sad. I wish mom and dad were in the same house.” And they are really honest. And I raise that type of person.
The Voice coach – who has separated parents herself – said she definitely understands how River and Remi are feeling.
“I just sit there and think, ‘I see. I also come from a divorced family. I understand. That sucks. But we will clarify. And you are so loved by both of us,” Clarkson continued.
