Hernando County deputies apprehend Pinellas County carjacking suspect

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – The Hernando County Sheriff arrested a carjacking suspect from Pinellas County Monday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, representatives were dispatched to marker 295 on I-75 at around 4:25 a.m. to help arrest the man.

A coordinator from the Pinellas Park Police Department contacted the sheriff’s office to be dispatched to the Hernando/Pasco County line on I-75.

Officials said Cortez Woredlow, 31, was traveling north, driving a vehicle believed to be stolen.

Tampa Police Department Air Service helicopters tracked Woredlow from the air, providing updates on his location to Pinellas Park Police coordinator, who then relayed the information to delegates.

The dispatcher told the Hernando County dispatcher that the suspect was armed with a handgun.

Two lieutenants were waiting near the 300 mile marker as Woredlow approached.

As he passed, the delegates fell behind the vehicle and followed a short distance until additional units arrived.

As Woredlow crossed Sumter County, Hernando County deputies proceeded to block traffic and put him under house arrest.

The Florida Highway Patrol and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office were also involved in the arrest.

Woredlow was taken to the Sumter County Jail, where he remains charged with grand auto theft.
