Hezbollah-Led Coalition Loses Seats in Lebanon’s Election

BEIRUT — Hezbollah and its allies lost their parliamentary majority in the first elections in Lebanon since the Beirut port explosion in 2020, in a setback for the Iran-backed political and militant group.

With no coalition winning a clear majority in Sunday’s election, protracted negotiations are possible between different factions in Lebanon’s sectarian-based political system over forming goverment. In the past, power-sharing transactions often took months or longer to hash.
