Hikaru Shida removed from Owen Hart Cup Tournament

Former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida had to withdraw from the Owen Hart Cup Tournament due to injury. Her replacement was announced in the most recent episode of Rampage.

Shida qualified for the tournament by defeating Julia Hart. However, after her street fight against Serena Deeb (combined with matches in Japan which is not mentioned), she was deemed too injured to compete and was withdrawn from the tournament. .

On the May 13 episode of AEW Rampage, Shida’s Owen Hart Cup rival, Red Velvet, thought she’d automatically say goodbye to the Semifinals. However, that is not the case as Tony Schiavone claims to replace Shida.

It is revealed that Red Velvet’s rival is her old friend, and also former championship contender Kris Statlander. Velvet and Statlander were very close in late 2021 along with Leyla Hirsch, however their friendship fell apart after Hirsch betrayed Statlander and Velvet joined forces with Jade Cargill.

The winner of the match will face Ruby Soho at the Owen Hart Cup

Whoever stands between Red Velvet and Kris Statlander will definitely have to give up. They will face Ruby Soho, who made it to the Semifinals in the same episode of Rampage.

Soho faced former AEW Women’s Champion Riho in the Quarterfinals in a head-to-head competition. After hitting the “blade runner”, Soho won and advanced to the next round.

The Winner of the Semi-Finals will advance to the Finals in Doubles or Nothing views on May 29. There, one of Ruby Soho, Kris Statlander or Red Velvet will face Toni Storm, Dr. Britt Baker DMD or a mysterious “joke” competitor in the final.
