Tensions between Phillip and 42-year-old Holly have led to the star quitting after more than 20 years on the sofa.

The once close relationship between the moderator couple broke up in recent weeks.

The Sun revealed earlier this week that Phillip faced the This Morning ax amid a “seismic” summer tremor.

Following the news, ITV has confirmed that Holly will not be appearing on Monday’s main show.

The network previously granted Holly and Phil time off from the show before exiting.

She is expected to appear as the show’s presenter on Monday, June 5.

However, it is currently unclear with whom she will moderate the two and a half hour show.

In a statement, bosses said: “Holly Willoughby will remain with This Morning and will co-host with members of the This Morning family.”

In his previously released statement, Schofe said: “I’ve always prided myself on covering fascinating stories on This Morning, but lately This Morning has become history itself.”

“Throughout my career in television – including the very difficult last few days – I have always tried my best to be honorable and kind.

“I understand that ITV has decided the current situation cannot continue and I want to do what I can to protect the show I love.”

“As a result, I have agreed to step down from This Morning, effective immediately, in the hope that the show can see a bright future.”

“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially the amazing viewers of This Morning – and see you all at the Soap Awards next month.”

Following the news, Holly took to her social media to gush about her now-former co-star, thanking him for his “knowledge and humor.”

She wrote, “It’s been an amazing 13 years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all his knowledge, experience and humor.”

Holly added, “The sofa isn’t going to feel the same without him.”

Fans of the show are already confident they know who will replace Phil and star alongside Holly.

Taking to social media, they said Alison Hammond will most likely take on the job.
