But there will also be some new faces this season.

It has since been announced that Hollyoaks actress Rhiannon Clements will replace Jac as the new and ambitious DC Steph Duncan.

Rhiannon played Summer Ranger in the Channel 4 soap opera.

Her character was arrested after her plan for revenge against Brody (Adam Woodward) was foiled when he was fatally run over and she was framed for his murder, when in fact it was Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) who ran Brody down.

Happy Valley villain Amit Shah will also make his Vera debut in the series 13 opening episode.

Amit portrayed the murderous pharmacist Faisal Bhatti in the third and final season of Sarah Lancashire’s drama.

He ended up killing his client Joanna Hepworth (Mollie Winnard) in harrowing scenes, leading to his downfall.

ITV teased how DCI Vera Stanhope and her investigative team are called down a country road in the first episode when a young man is found dead.

The victim, a popular market trader, appears to have been hit by a car when the investigation began.

Meanwhile, Kenny Doughty shocked Vera fans earlier this year by announcing he was leaving the ITV series after eight years.

Fans took another blow when it was revealed that Ibinabo Jack, who played DC Jacqueline Williams, had also decided to step down from the series to focus on theater commitments.

The new series will only consist of three episodes, but ITV has announced they will be “feature-length”.

Discussing her return as the legendary detective, Brenda said, “Returning to Vera in season thirteen feels like coming home again.”

“The support from the local community in the North East is truly heartwarming and it is an absolute joy to be reunited with the talented David Leon and the rest of our exceptional team.”

“Together we begin this new chapter with a magnificent screenplay by the brilliant Paul Matthew Thompson.”

Vera’s new series will return to ITV1 and ITVX early next year.
