Once-high-flying Hollywood agent Adam Venit allegedly admitted to arresting his wife Trina under false pretenses, according to a court filing Thursday in federal court in Los Angeles.
The file includes a January 2019 letter to his estranged wife, Trina, in which Venit explains the circumstances that led to her arrest and apologizes for his behavior.
“We had an argument and it was heated, but I STUPIDLY involved our kids and made the mistake of being scared and doing the UNTHINKABLE of getting you arrested,” the letter reads. “One of the two biggest failures and regrets in my life. I AM SO SORRY.”
A representative for Adam Venit could not be reached for comment.
The letter was part of a motion filed by attorneys for Trina Venit in US Central District Court in Los Angeles this week. She sued the former WME affiliate in June, accusing him of sexual assault, assault and false imprisonment over a period of several years.
Venit claimed her husband chased her around their home to find her phone during an altercation in 2019 and threatened to report her on domestic violence charges and “hoping to cause injury to answer his fabricated abuse lawsuit.” substantiate”, added to her complaint. Police arrested Trina Venit for domestic violence and released her the next morning, she said.
Earlier this month, Adam Venit petitioned federal court to dismiss her lawsuit, arguing the matter should be resolved in family court. He said in a filing that Trina Venit’s allegations of domestic violence were “completely fabricated” and that she was trying to do so “abusing this federal forum as part of their ongoing quest to preserve more than half of the parties’ marital assets.”
But on Thursday, Trina Venit filed an appeal against that motion to have her case dismissed, including the letter allegedly written by Venit describing psychological issues that led to their argument and arrest.
“In the letter, the accused admits that he called the police at the plaintiff’s – conspicuous Not because of actual or threatened violence by her against him – but also because of the “confused psychology” of the accused; ‘tension and [Plaintiff’s] Threats to write a book [and] Phone call [Defendant] gay’,” Trina Venit explained in her complaint. “This letter represents a clear admission that the defendant’s version of events was fabricated from the outset.”
Venit, whose clients have included the likes of Adam Sandler, drew public attention in 2018 when he resigned from WME after Terry Crews claimed Venit groped him at a party in West Hollywood in 2016. The lawsuit was settled and Venit apologized to crews for the incident.
In March 2021, Adam Venit filed for divorce after 22 years of marriage. Trina obtained a domestic violence restraining order against her estranged husband with evidence of multiple counts of abuse. The Los Angeles Police Department “seized at least eight firearms and extensive ammunition belonging to Adam on April 17, 2021 from the former family home,” she said in her lawsuit.
Two months later, Venit filed his own restraining order against Trina of Hawaii, where he currently resides, according to her complaint.
Both injunctions were then lifted.
