Hong Kong Speech Therapists Jailed Over Children’s Books Ruled Seditious

HONG KONG — A group of speech therapists have been sentenced to 19 months in prison after being convicted of sedition for publishing children’s books that a judge ruled portrayed the Chinese government as bad wolves and the people of Hong Kong as sheep.

The sentencing Saturday marked the latest blow to freedom of expression in the city in a crackdown on national security that followed mass anti-government protests in 2019. Authorities have scrambled to quash dissent in the Chinese city, shutting down newspapers and jailing activists and pro-democracy politicians. More than 200 people were arrested.
