BALTIMORE (WJZ) – For the first time since February, more than 400 Marylanders were hospitalized with COVID-19, according to data released Tuesday by the Maryland Department of Health.
And the state’s seven-day positivity rate is the highest since January 31, when the increase in cases attributed to the Omicron variant began to decline, according to the data.

An additional 39 Marylanders were hospitalized with the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients in the state to 403 – the highest since February 26, when 418 people were in the hospital receiving care.
Of those currently hospitalized, 354 adults are in acute care and 37 in intensive care. Eleven children are in acute care and one is in the ICU.
The positivity rate in Maryland has increased by 0.37% in the last 24 hours and is now 8.02%. The last time the index surpassed 8% was on January 31, when it was 8.66%, according to state data.
The city of Baltimore and Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties all have “Moderate” levels of transmission, according to the CDC’s COVID-19 Community Level. Under those conditions, the CDC advises that people who are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe illness consult their doctor about wearing a mask and other precautions.

Another 17 jurisdictions in the state have “Low” transmission rates, according to the CDC.
Maryland reported 2,292 more cases as of Monday.
The statewide death toll is now 14,277, an increase of 18 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Maryland has received 11,796,189 doses of the vaccine, and 4,626,828 Marylanders have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to state officials, 2,345,556 Marylanders received a booster shot, including 1,581 in the past day.
