house of the dragon has changed very quickly fromthe new game of Thrones spin off” must-watch on schedule television, thanks in no small part to the extreme drama experienced by its well-acted characters. Olivia Cook‘s Alicent Hightower – daughter, queen, mother – has had more than her fair share of trials, but the actor managed to highlight a moment that stood out more than most.
“In episode eight the scene with [servant girl] Dyana where she tells me that my son raped her… I had to hit Tom [Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon] very hard‘ Cooke said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “And Tom was like, ‘No, just hit me.’ I hit him on the chin on the first go-around. And he said, “No, just hit me,” and I fucking made it go so far that it echoed all the way down the hall and my hand suddenly had a heartbeat. Luckily the camera is on Tom and I was completely removed from the scene [because I was] tries to suppress a really awkward laugh. God knows what it did to his face. … We’ve only done it once or maybe twice. But it was like, ‘Oh my god, don’t mess with yourself.’”
Episode eight was particularly important for Alicent, and Cooke made sure she was ready to convey all the heightened emotion it required. “Sara Hess wrote this episode, so I talked to her endlessly and [director] Geeta Patel. It’s such a bad situation that Alicent has to be in … They have to think about what Alicent herself really stands for in this moment, and that’s for her kids and for order,” Cooke said. “Her first thought is to love and protect her son as much as possible… but at the same time, her humanity overwhelms her and she can’t help but genuinely feel for this girl – but then an iron shield has to come in. There is one task, and that is to rebuke Aegon, but also to reassure everyone who knows. It was just such a sombre scene to film and there was an eerie, calm and subdued atmosphere on set that day.”
When asked whether the house of the dragon The cast ever had to “decompress” after filming the show. traumatic scenes, Cooke affirmed and added that plans are already underway to find out where we will gather next season. “A lot of the shows [filmed] in Watford … we’re saying next season we need to find a local pub in Watford where we can go and just have a drink and just say, ‘What the hell did we just do?’”
