Professional dancer Amy Dowden is currently undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.
In September 2023, Amy shared an update after undergoing her final chemotherapy treatment.
She told her followers: “Chemo 4. Was extremely sick, despite three types of anti-sickness.” Also very tired. I’m going to rest.”
On September 12, 2023, the brave Strictly star shed light on her “breakdowns” and tears following her diagnosis.
She said: “I can’t leave the house now without something on my head because unfortunately [I’m] pretty bare above.
The Welsh star added: “I think I cry less now. At first it was every day, but now I have meltdowns if I wash my hair once a week.”
“I haven’t brushed my hair in two weeks and this has definitely helped.
“Since I got out of the hospital with the blood clots, I stopped cleaning them myself because I was just distraught when I saw how much was falling out.”
When was Amy Dowden diagnosed with breast cancer?
In May 2023, Amy shared the news that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The dancer revealed her health battle on Instagram, writing: “Hello everyone, I have news that can’t just be shared.”
“I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer but I am determined to get back on the dance floor quickly.
“Welsh people love Amy x.”
The Welsh star, who is married to partner Ben Jones, first discovered a lump in her right breast the day before they flew to the Maldives for their delayed honeymoon in April.
How did Strictly Come Dancing pay tribute to Amy Dowden?
In September 2023, Strictly Come Dancing fans were left in tears after the series’ first dance was dedicated to Amy.
Strictly hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman sent their congratulations to Amy as the stars performed a dance in honor of their “Welsh dragon”.
Tess Daly said: “We are of course missing one of our professional dancers, our beautiful Amy Dowden is not well and cannot be with us at the start of the series.”
“She is our Welsh dragon and we know she will be back soon.”
Claudia added: “Amy, from your entire Strictly family we send you all our love and can’t wait to have you back on the dance floor.”
