RALEIGH, NC– The Christmas holidays are here and AAA expects more than 112 million people to travel by road, rail and air. If you fly, prepare to pack your patience for busy airports. Before you ever leave your home for the airport, take these steps to hopefully make your trip less stressful.
When it comes to luggage, you decide whether to take hand luggage or check a bag. If you’re giving up bags, you might want to invest in Apple Air Tags. Melissa Klurman of The Points Guy says, “While these don’t prevent your luggage from getting lost, they do let you know where your luggage is at all times so you can help the airport.” Klurman adds that you can store your luggage this way locate and tell airlines where it is if your luggage doesn’t show up at your final destination if you have a flight tag inside.
When it comes to your checked or carry-on baggage, make sure you remove any old tags from previous flights and make sure your name and phone number are in multiple places in and on your baggage in case the airline tags change to solve .
If your flight is delayed or cancelled, take action as soon as you are notified of an issue. “Use your phone. It’s your best tool. Download the airline’s app, use the app to simultaneously try to get help, call, stand in line, and do all of those things at the same time,” says Klurman. Another tip if you have access to the airline lounges: “Go straight into the lounge where they also have agents and those agents will usually be available without queuing. They will offer you a VIP service and will be able to change your flight maybe immediately. The early risers will definitely get the better flight on this one,” Klurman suggests
You also need to remember that if the airline cancels your flight you are entitled to a full refund, you don’t have to settle for a credit.
It also matters when you arrive at the airport before your flight. Don’t wait until an hour before your flight, there are long lines, so give yourself plenty of time.
