How to Set up Birthday Countdowns on Google Nest Hub

Learn how to set up an anniversary on your Google smart speaker.

You can use the Google Nest Hub smart display not only to check the weather and control your various smart home devices. Since these smart displays take up precious space in your bedroom or your office desk, you can display the countdown to your birthday or that of your loved ones.

The process of displaying the birthday countdown timer on the Nest smart screen is quite simple. You need to make sure that all relevant options are enabled in Google Home settings and that your loved ones’ birthday details are filled in.

The Nest display will only show a countdown timer for your birthday, other family members whose accounts have been linked to the display, and contacts close to you. It won’t show a countdown for all your contacts, as that can be overwhelming.

Enable Personal Results for your Nest Monitor

To make sure your Nest Hub display shows your loved ones’ upcoming birthdays, you’ll need to allow personal results on Assistant devices. Before that, make sure you’ve set up the Google Assistant on your device.

  1. Open the Google app on your Android phone or the Google Assistant app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top right.
  3. Selection Assistant Settings Followed by Personal results.
  4. Make sure that Showing personal results toggle.

Depending on your settings, you may be able to enable individual results for all the Google Nest Hub displays in your home.

  1. Open the Google Home app for iOS or Android.
  2. Tap Settings in Home navigation.
  3. Selection Google Assistant in Features.
  4. From the menu that opens, navigate to Personal results and enable the option for all smart displays you want.
  5. Also, make sure that Actively display option is selected.

This will ensure that a countdown timer for upcoming birthdays will be displayed on the screen. If your Nest smart display has Face Match enabled, the birthday countdown will only show when the display recognizes you.

The countdown timer will only show if your loved ones’ birthday details have been included in the Google Assistant. If not, you need to enter the details first.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top right corner, then Assistant settings.
  3. Scroll down and select You> Your People.
  4. You can then tap the contact’s name and fill in their missing date of birth.
  5. Alternatively, you can use More people to add a contact from your contacts to this list and fill in the relevant details.

If you don’t want the Nest screen to show a birthday countdown for a specific contact, just press and hold the notification, then select Dismissed.
