How to Take Screenshots on Android TV

It’s not immediately obvious how to take screenshots on Android TV, but it’s very simple once you know it.

If you’ve ever read our Roku and Android TV articles, you’ve probably noticed the stark difference in screenshot quality between the devices.

Roku makes life difficult if you want to take screenshots — you need to put the device in Developer Mode and access Roku’s IP address from a browser. On Android TV, the process is much easier, although not as simple as taking a screenshot on an Android mobile device.

In this article, we will explain how to take screenshots on your Android TV.

How to take a screenshot on Android TV

Taking screenshots on Android TV is very simple. Just follow the simple step-by-step instructions below.

  1. Hold Home on your Android TV remote for five seconds.
  2. A new menu will pop up on the screen.
  3. Navigate to the right and tick Screenshots.
  4. Press Home.
  5. Scroll down and choose either Save to Photos or Save and share.
  6. If you choose Save and Share, select the app you want to share the screenshot with.

But what if your Android TV device doesn’t have a remote? You have two options:

  • If your device has a USB port, you can plug in the wireless keyboard and press Print Screen button.
  • If you don’t have a USB port available, download one of the many remote control apps for Android TV from the Google Play Store. They will all include a Home button.
