HRT prescriptions to cost less than £20 per year in menopause campaign win

WOMEN are paying less than £20 a year for menopausal hormone replacement therapy under the new prescription rules.
From April 1, patients can buy an HRT annual card worth £18.70 to win The Sun’s Fabulous Menopause Matters campaign calling for the change in 2021.

Around 400,000 women will benefit, saving hundreds of pounds a year on their screenplays.
HRT helps fight menopause symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings and problems in the bedroom.
The Government’s Health Ambassador for Women, Dame Lesley Regan, said: “Making HRT more affordable will have a huge impact on the lives of so many women.
“This prepayment certificate is a major step forward in making women’s health and well-being a priority.”
Women can apply for the certificate online or at a pharmacy.
The one-time payment entitles them to unlimited HRT prescriptions, which are issued by their doctor.
An initiative to improve access to HRT last year resulted in the first over-the-counter therapies being available over-the-counter.
Our Fabulous Menopause Matters campaign also called for better support for women at work.
Ministers faced a push last year to improve conditions for women going through ‘transition’.
The government appointed a HRT czar and released a women’s health strategy as pharmacies across the country ran out of essential medicines.
Women Secretary Maria Caulfield said: “Reducing the cost of HRT is a huge moment for improving women’s health in this country.
“I am proud to announce this significant step forward.
“We have made menopause a top priority in our women’s health strategy – by making HRT more accessible, we are delivering on our commitment to women.”
